Welcome to Kerbeck Fell Ponies
Kerbeck Fell Ponies is a small stud, which breeds Registered
Fell Ponies, the indigenous breed of Cumbria. Christine Robinson
and her parents Henderson and Mary Dodd own the stud jointly.
The stud was founded in 1977, with the purchase of the foundation
mare, Townend Princess II. Originally based at
Braystones, on the West Cumbrian Coast, Kerbeck Fell Ponies moved
to North Fell Dyke, Lamplugh in 1981. Lamplugh is situated at
the edge of the West Cumbrian Fells, midway between the valleys
of Loweswater and Ennerdale.
Townend Huey is the resident stallion and ran
with the mares for the first time in 2001. He is producing quality
ponies, mainly, it seems fillies!
There are always a few youngsters about the stud as well as the
older ponies.
Kerbeck is home to a small livery stable, most of the liveries
are registered Fell Ponies and they compete in various activities
with their owners.
The aim of the stud is to breed Fell Ponies, which are not only
true to Breed type, active, hardy and with good temperaments,
but also to breed ponies that will be a credit to the Fell Pony
Breed, the stud and their future owners. This strategy appears
to be working as several of our ponies have gone on to do well
in all types of activity. Kerbeck Night Serenade and her full
sister, Kerbeck Night Melody have both been champions in-hand,
under saddle and in working hunter sections. They have also taken
part in numerous other activities including cross-country and
dressage. Kerbeck Solar Fire is well known both within the Fell
Pony Society and the local Riding Club for his jumping abilities,
he is also driven. Kerbeck Fire Prince had two excellent seasons
under saddle, winning several trophies, before going on loan to
a neighbouring family. Kerbeck Wild Fire has been "doing his bit"
by winning prizes in driving classes in Florida, USA! Kerbeck
Fire Storm, full brother to Kerbeck Wild Fire, has taken up residence
at a Riding for the Disabled Centre in Scotland, where his excellent
temperament makes him ideal for the work involved. Kerbeck Night
Mystery, the only daughter of Townend Princess II, spent most
of her early life as a brood mare; at the age of 10 years she
had a new start and was broken to ride and drive. She has amassed
quite a reasonable collection of rosettes in all types of activity.
Mystery and Serenade are currently on loan to the Messenger family
and regularly compete in a variety of Pony Club and other events.
